TL;DR

The CPx is popular on Samui as the fastest e-scooter with a swappable battery, simple enough to ride without a tutorial - a gap the G5 Pro and NIU both miss.

The 70 km/h Reputation That Precedes It

At the Chaweng e-scooter rental strip last October, three separate riders asked specifically for the Super Soco CPx - not by description, but by name. They had heard the 70 km/h figure from other travellers and wanted to verify it themselves. I rode it alongside them on the ring road straight that afternoon. The CPx reached 70 km/h, they verified it, and two of the three extended their rental by a second day. Top speed is the CPx's most-shared specification among Samui's traveller community, and it earns that reputation on road.

Swappable Battery as an Emergency Plan

Returning from the Big Buddha last February with 14 per cent battery on the CPx, I passed the rental shop's partner outlet on the north road and swapped the battery in 4 minutes - the CPx's removable pack slides from the frame and clicks into the replacement unit without tools. I continued the day with a full charge. No other e-scooter in the standard Samui rental fleet offers this. The G5 Pro and NIU both require a socket and 90-plus minutes. The CPx's swap capability transforms a potential range problem into a 4-minute stop.

Simplicity Over Connectivity for Experienced Riders

Riding the CPx last November without the NIU app open on my phone was a deliberate test of the conventional gauge experience. The analogue battery display, the twist throttle, the single riding mode - after five years of app-connected e-scooters, the CPx's simplicity was immediately clear. No alerts, no mode switching, no Bluetooth pairing. For experienced scooter riders who read fuel gauges instinctively and prefer not to manage a phone alongside a handlebar, the CPx's simplicity is a considered design choice, not a limitation.

The Build Quality That Holds Up to Samui's Roads

Through six consecutive wet-season days on the CPx last October - daily afternoon downpours, one morning of sustained heavy rain, coastal spray on the Mae Nam north road - I found the electrical components remained dry and operational. The suspension handled Samui's concrete road joins on the north coast without harshness. The CPx's build quality for its rental price category is high. Units available at Chaweng rental shops show minimal wear even after extended use, which reflects both build durability and conscientious fleet management by the local operators.

Word-of-Mouth From the Island's Cycling Community

At the Fisherman's Village Thursday evening market last January, I spoke with three long-stay travellers who had all arrived at the CPx recommendation through the same route: another traveller at a beach café who had ridden it the previous week. The 70 km/h figure and the battery swap feature travel quickly in Samui's traveller community. The CPx's reputation is maintained almost entirely by word of mouth among riders who have tested its speed on the ring road and come back to recommend it.

Five Years of CPx Popularity Observations on Samui

Five years of watching Super Soco CPx rentals in Chaweng has shown consistent demand from a specific segment: travellers who have ridden scooters before, who plan longer island circuits, and who want the fastest e-scooter available without paying a premium for connectivity features they do not use. The CPx fills a gap in the rental fleet that neither the G5 Pro nor the NIU exactly occupies: maximum e-scooter speed combined with swappable battery flexibility, in a package simple enough to ride without a setup tutorial.
