At the Chaweng beach road rental strip last February, I watched a Swedish traveller take the Super Soco CPx out at 7 a.m. and return six hours later, having covered the north coast circuit and the Fisherman's Village market without stopping to charge. He covered 62 kilometres on one charge and arrived at Lamai with battery remaining. He did not want a smartphone app. He wanted range, speed, and a scooter he could trust on open tarmac. Riding the CPx from Chaweng to Nathon market last October - 22 kilometres west along the ring road - I reached 70 km/h on the clear straight past the Tesco junction. The CPx's higher top speed suits solo travellers who plan long days across Samui's ring road and coastal roads without needing a digital battery forecast. A conventional gauge and a full charge at departure covers most Samui day circuits below 55 kilometres with range to spare.
Carrying a second rider on the CPx last November on the Chaweng-to-Lamai beach road, I measured the impact: range dropped from an estimated 68 kilometres to approximately 52 kilometres at the same speed. That still covers the standard beach corridor day comfortably. Couples splitting a single rental on Samui - one scooter, two people, 30 to 45 kilometres of daily beach road use - fit the CPx's capability range exactly. The seat and riding position both accommodate two adults without crowding.
Midway through the Nathon ring road section last March, the CPx reached 70 km/h and held pace with the car traffic through the straight above the junction. The G5 Pro peaks at 60 km/h on the same section; the NIU MQi+ Sport at 62 km/h. For a rider whose Samui itinerary includes the full ring road circuit - where traffic moves between 60 and 70 km/h - the CPx is the most capable e-scooter in the standard rental fleet for that specific use.
Returning from Mae Nam last January with 18 per cent battery and no app estimate available, I had to calculate the 14-kilometre return conservatively - reducing speed to 40 km/h to ensure safe arrival. The CPx's lack of range estimation is its main limitation for analytical riders who plan routes around precise battery percentages. Riders who rely on a smartphone for daily planning, who need GPS anti-theft tracking, or who prioritise faster café charging will find the NIU MQi+ Sport a better match.
Five years of watching Super Soco CPx rentals depart from Chaweng has produced a consistent rider profile: adventurous, experienced on scooters, prioritising speed and range over connectivity, comfortable with a conventional gauge and no app. They are not first-time riders - the CPx's 70 km/h top speed and responsive motor require rider competence to use safely. For experienced travellers on longer Samui circuits, the CPx delivers the best e-scooter performance in the rental fleet at its price point.
