TL;DR

The CPx battery swap only pays off if you plan it in: confirm the network at handover and treat the swap as a midday break, not a panic stop on the roadside.

The First Battery Swap I Did on the North Coast

At the partner rental outlet near the Big Buddha junction last February with 16 per cent battery on the CPx, the staff member removed the battery pack from the scooter's frame in under 30 seconds - a sliding release latch, no tools - and clicked in a fully charged unit. From arrival to departure: 4 minutes total, including the staff member locating the spare battery in the back room. I had expected a service stop; I got a refuelling experience closer to a petrol fill-up than anything else in the e-scooter category.

Where to Swap Batteries on Koh Samui

Checking with the Chaweng rental shop last November, I confirmed two partner swap points on the island: the north road outlet near the Big Buddha junction, and the Lamai shop near the market. Both are run by the same operator network that rents the CPx. The swap service is not universal - it requires pre-confirmation with your rental shop that the specific outlet accepts the swap at no additional charge. I confirmed this at the rental handover on both occasions I used the service. Ask at the start of the rental, not at low battery.

How the Battery Release Works on the CPx

Removing the battery on the CPx last October for inspection, I found the release mechanism straightforward: a key-locked latch on the frame's left side releases the pack from its housing. The battery slides forward and lifts clear. It weighs approximately 7 kilograms - manageable for a single person, but both hands are required. Reinserting the replacement battery follows the same motion in reverse: slide in, push to seat, and the latch clicks closed. The key is required for both release and lock. No tools, no technical knowledge required.

Planning a Day Around Battery Swap Points

On the full ring road day last March - Chaweng to Nathon, Mae Nam, and back, 52 kilometres - I planned the route with the Big Buddha swap point as the midday stop at kilometre 26. I arrived with 38 per cent battery, swapped, and completed the second half with a full charge. The CPx's swap system transforms a 65-kilometre limit into a practical 100-plus-kilometre day if the route passes a swap point at the natural midpoint. For the ring road circuit specifically, the swap point near Big Buddha sits almost exactly at the halfway distance.

Battery Swap vs Charging: When Each Makes Sense

After a 90-minute café stop at Mae Nam last January - during which I plugged the CPx into the café's socket - the battery recovered from 22 per cent to 56 per cent. That 34-percentage-point recovery required 90 minutes. The battery swap at the Big Buddha junction last February recovered 84 per cent in 4 minutes. For riders on a tight schedule, the swap is categorically faster. For riders with a long café lunch planned, plugging in while eating is free and requires no additional stop. Both options are viable; the swap is time-efficient, the charge stop is cost-efficient.

Five Years of CPx Battery Swap Experience on Samui

Five years of CPx rentals on Koh Samui has produced a simple rule for battery swap use: confirm the swap network at rental handover, identify the swap point on your planned route before departure, and treat the swap stop as a deliberate midday break rather than an emergency. Riders who plan the swap into their route use the CPx's full range capability; riders who arrive at the swap point in panic with 5 per cent battery have lost the planning advantage the swap system provides. The CPx's battery swap feature is only valuable if you treat it as a route planning tool from day one.
