At the Chaweng rental shop last February I watched a Dutch woman in her forties bypass every petrol scooter in the row and spend 10 minutes on the Yadea G5 Pro - battery level, charge time, whether the motor noise would disturb the jungle section she was planning. She had cycled Koh Samui twice before and wanted to cover more ground this trip without using fuel. She returned the G5 Pro after a day and extended for the week. Her reasoning was clear: she wanted to explore the island without contributing to the exhaust haze above Chaweng beach road at 9 a.m.
Riding the G5 Pro last December from the Chaweng rental point to Mae Nam market and back - 34 kilometres of flat coastal road - I used 38 per cent of the battery. For a rider whose daily Samui plan stays within the beach corridor - Chaweng to Lamai, Chaweng to the Big Buddha, Chaweng to the Fisherman's Village - the G5 Pro's range is never a constraint. These short-range beach day-trippers are the G5 Pro's natural market, and they do not need to think about charging once during a typical holiday day.
Cycling Samui's northern coast road last November at dawn, I was passed by a G5 Pro at 45 km/h - the only sound from it was the faint whir of the motor and the tyre on the tarmac. No exhaust, no engine noise. For a traveller who cycles or walks when possible and rents a scooter only for longer connections, the G5 Pro's silence is not a trivial feature. At Choeng Mon bay in the early morning, arriving silently matters. The G5 Pro allows it and the petrol scooters alongside it do not.
At a beach café in Mae Nam last January I met a German teacher spending three weeks on Samui specifically to travel as low-impact as possible - plant-based meals, solar-charged electronics, and a G5 Pro for every day longer than walking distance. He had tracked his transport carbon across the three weeks: zero from the G5 Pro charged at the hotel's solar top-up point. The G5 Pro allowed him to explore the whole northern coast - 62 kilometres of beach circuit - without the compromise of a petrol rental. Range plus purpose: the G5 Pro's strongest combination.
On the Nathon mountain road last March I tested the G5 Pro's performance on the 340-metre climb: the motor slowed significantly above the 8 per cent gradient section, requiring me to help it along at walking pace at the steepest point. The G5 Pro is not for riders planning mountain road circuits, full ring road days above 60 kilometres, or any route with significant elevation changes. Riders who need the island-wide capability of the NMAX 155 and cannot plan around a mid-day charge stop should rent a petrol scooter. The G5 Pro's advantages are specific to flat coastal riding.
Five years of eco-travel advocacy and rental observation on Koh Samui has produced a consistent Yadea G5 Pro profile: a traveller who cares about transport impact, plans rides within 50 kilometres per day, stays near the beach corridor charging network, and values the silence and smoothness of electric propulsion over the range of petrol. Every traveller fitting this profile leaves the G5 Pro rental satisfied. Riders who do not fit it leave it early and reach for the NMAX. Knowing which rider you are before walking into the rental shop saves half a day of recalibration.
