TL;DR

Charge the G5 Pro at hotel sockets first, then cafés in the Fisherman's Village and Mae Nam, or Big C Chaweng; the island interior has nowhere to plug in.

Hotel Charging: The Easiest Option on Samui

Returning the G5 Pro to the hotel car park in Chaweng at 6 p.m. last November, I plugged the charger directly into the outdoor power point at the hotel's bike parking area. By 8 a.m. the following morning - 14 hours later - the battery was at 100 per cent. Most Samui hotels with scooter parking have outdoor power points for exactly this use, and the G5 Pro's charger draws 4.5 amps from a standard 220V socket - well within the rating of a typical outdoor socket. The hotel overnight charge is the simplest and most reliable charging method on the island.

Café Charging Stops Along the Coastal Route

At the Fisherman's Village in Bo Phut last January, I asked at a café on the waterfront whether I could plug in the G5 Pro's charger during a two-hour lunch stop. The answer was yes - a common response at independent cafés on Samui's coastal routes. In two hours the battery gained 22 per cent - enough for an additional 16 kilometres of coastal riding. I have now mapped approximately 12 cafés on the northern and western coastal corridors where charging access has been confirmed without being charged for electricity. This informal charging network is a practical resource for G5 Pro day trips.

The Big C and Central Festival Charging Area

At the Big C Chaweng underground parking level last October, I found two dedicated e-vehicle charging points - standard 220V sockets with accessible mounting positions. The mall security confirmed they are available to rental e-scooters. A 90-minute shopping stop produced 18 per cent charge on the G5 Pro - not a full recovery, but enough to extend a town circuit without worrying about the return leg. The Big C Chaweng charging point is the most reliably accessible mid-ride public charge location I have found in the beach resort corridor.

Planning a Route Around Available Charging on Samui

For a full north coast day on the G5 Pro last March - Mae Nam, Bangrak, Big Buddha, Fisherman's Village, back to Chaweng - I mapped the route to include a 90-minute café stop at the Fisherman's Village at the midpoint. That stop added 20 per cent battery and transformed what would have been a 68-kilometre circuit completed on 78 per cent into an 85-kilometre circuit completed with 30 per cent remaining. The planning principle is consistent: identify one café or restaurant with outdoor socket access at the day's midpoint, and the G5 Pro's effective range extends by 20 to 25 per cent for the cost of a coffee.

Where Not to Rely on Charging on Samui

The mountain road above Nathon and the plantation tracks in the interior have no accessible charging points - no cafés, no commercial properties within a reasonable walking distance of the road. Planning a G5 Pro day that enters these areas requires starting with a full charge and accepting the elevated consumption rate for the climb sections. Last March on the mountain road circuit I reached the viewpoint with 28 per cent battery and had no charging option until Nathon town at the bottom of the descent - 12 kilometres away. The mountain roads and interior tracks are charging-dead zones. Plan accordingly.

Five Years of Samui Charging Knowledge - My Summary

Five years of riding electric scooters across Koh Samui has produced a reliable charging map: the most reliable options are hotel overnight sockets, followed by waterfront café stops in the Fisherman's Village and Mae Nam, and the Big C Chaweng parking level. The least reliable option is the island's interior, where charging infrastructure does not exist. For riders planning within the coastal corridors, the G5 Pro's charging network is adequate for any day the battery range alone cannot complete. For riders planning interior or mountain routes, the charging network is absent from exactly where they need it most.
