At Chaweng last November I started the G5 Pro with a full charge and rode the beach corridor circuit - Chaweng south to Lamai, east coast south to Hin Ta, back north to Chaweng via the southern ring road, total 28 kilometres. Battery used: 31 per cent. At that consumption rate, the G5 Pro could complete this circuit three times before needing a charge. For any rider whose Samui holiday consists of this kind of beach loop, the G5 Pro's range is abundant - not merely adequate.
Riding the northern coast route from Chaweng to Mae Nam market, across to the Big Buddha, and back last February - 42 kilometres total - I finished with 52 per cent battery remaining. This is the G5 Pro's sweet spot: a full northern coastal day, three destinations, no range anxiety. The route stays flat and below 50 km/h for its entire length, which is exactly the speed profile the G5 Pro's motor handles most efficiently. For a Samui day structured around the northern beaches, the G5 Pro completes it on one charge with substantial buffer.
Spending three days last October using the G5 Pro only for Chaweng town errands - Big C, the morning market on Second Road, the Lamai evening market - I tracked daily battery use: never above 22 per cent across any day's errands. I charged once in three days, before the third day's market run added a longer stretch. For a rider on a resort-and-beach holiday who uses a scooter only for supplementary town access rather than exploration, the G5 Pro can be charged every two to three days - a logistics profile that eliminates charging as a daily concern.
Riding from Chaweng to Nathon and continuing to the mountain road viewpoint last March, I reached the viewpoint with 28 per cent battery remaining - the mountain road section used 35 per cent in 6 kilometres of climbing, compared to 8 per cent for the same 6 kilometres on flat coastal road. The return to Chaweng from the viewpoint at that battery level required a conscious decision: direct route only, no detours, moderate speed. Any day that includes elevation should include a planned charge stop.
At the café at the base of the Nathon viewpoint road last March, I plugged the G5 Pro's charger into the outdoor socket and added 40 per cent battery in 2.5 hours over lunch and a trail walk. Mid-day charging is the G5 Pro's effective answer to range constraint: plan the route with a natural stop at a café where charging is available, and the daily range extends from 80 kilometres to over 100 kilometres. Five years of eco-travel planning on Samui has taught me that mid-day charging is not a limitation - it is a lunch stop with a purpose.
Five years of electric scooter riding on Koh Samui has produced a simple range planning framework for the G5 Pro: flat coastal days up to 60 kilometres - no charge stop needed. Flat days above 60 kilometres - plan a 2-hour mid-day charge. Any day with significant elevation - plan a charge stop after the mountain section and adjust the afternoon route accordingly. Within this framework, the G5 Pro covers the full range of beach holiday activities on Samui. Outside it, a petrol scooter is the honest recommendation.
