At the Chaweng rental shop last December I started the G5 Pro with a 100 per cent charge and rode a mapped test route: Chaweng north coast to Mae Nam, west to Nathon, south coast back to Chaweng - 78 kilometres, primarily flat, average speed 42 km/h. Battery at return: 6 per cent. The G5 Pro's specified 80-kilometre range under Samui's flat coastal conditions is accurate and reproducible. At the moment I reached Chaweng the charge indicator was in the reserve band but the motor had not yet reduced power output.
On the mountain road above Nathon last March, the G5 Pro consumed 35 per cent battery in 6 kilometres of climbing - a consumption rate 4.4 times higher than on flat coastal road. The descending section recovered 3 per cent through regenerative braking - useful but not close to restoring the climb cost. Any route including Samui's mountain sections should subtract 30 to 40 per cent from the planned flat-road range calculation. A 60-kilometre flat-road budget becomes a 36 to 42-kilometre effective budget on a day with a single significant climb.
Plugging the G5 Pro into the 220V socket in my Mae Nam hotel room last November at 10 p.m. - battery at 22 per cent - the charger indicator showed full charge at 5:45 a.m. the following morning: 7 hours 45 minutes from 22 per cent to 100 per cent. From 0 per cent to 100 per cent, the G5 Pro requires approximately 8 to 9 hours on a standard hotel socket. For overnight charging this is entirely practical. For a mid-day café charge stop of 2 hours, expect to recover 20 to 25 per cent - enough for an additional 16 to 20 kilometres of flat coastal riding.
Riding the Chaweng-to-Mae Nam coastal road at three different speeds on three separate days last January - 30 km/h, 45 km/h, and the G5 Pro's limited top speed of 55 km/h - I measured battery consumption per kilometre at each speed. At 30 km/h: 0.9 per cent per kilometre. At 45 km/h: 1.2 per cent per kilometre. At 55 km/h: 1.6 per cent per kilometre. The 78 per cent increase in consumption from 30 to 55 km/h is the G5 Pro's most important practical specification. Riding at 40 to 45 km/h produces the best range without sacrificing usable pace.
Over a seven-day rental of the G5 Pro last February - starting with a unit the rental shop confirmed had low cycle count - I tracked maximum range across the week. Day one: 80 kilometres at the tested consumption rate. Day seven: 77 kilometres. The three-kilometre degradation across one week of daily use is within the battery management system's normal variation. Battery degradation over a single holiday rental week is not a practical concern. It becomes relevant for long-term rentals above three months, outside the typical Samui tourist rental scope.
Five years of tracking Yadea G5 Pro battery performance across Koh Samui's different riding conditions has produced stable figures: 75 to 85 kilometres on flat coastal roads at 40 to 45 km/h, 45 to 55 kilometres on mixed routes with elevation, and 8 to 9 hours from near-empty to full on a standard 220V hotel socket. These figures are not manufacturer claims - they are measured across more than 40 individual riding sessions across multiple rental units. They represent the actual performance Samui's rental riders can plan around.
