I picked the Myra for a full circumnavigation day last March - Chaweng, Nathon, Lipa Noi, Hua Thanon, home - and it was the right call. Its 180 km dual-battery range swallowed the 80-odd kilometres with the gauge barely moving. When your plan is to genuinely circle Koh Samui and detour to every viewpoint, the Myra's reach and effortless power make the distance disappear. This is the day the machine was built for: ambitious, far-reaching, and finished without a single charge stop.
Carrying a friend from Bo Phut up to the Big Buddha and on to Choeng Mon last season, the Myra never noticed the extra weight - 7000 watts pulls two people uphill the way petrol bikes do. Two-up days are where weaker electrics expose themselves on Samui's gradients, wheezing on every climb. The Myra simply does not. When you are sharing the riding with a partner and want a machine that holds speed loaded on hills, this is the day it earns its keep.
Riding out the tail of a monsoon shower near Na Mueang last April, I leaned on the Myra's rear ABS down a slick descent and was grateful for it. Wet Samui days - and there are many - are exactly when ABS shifts from a spec-sheet line to a real safety margin. When the forecast is uncertain and the roads are greasy, the Myra is the e-scooter I reach for, because its braking gives a confidence that the fleet's non-ABS electrics cannot.
The long, open ring-road sections on the west and south - past Lipa Noi, out toward Taling Ngam - are where the Myra's performance turns a chore into a pleasure. Cruising those stretches last season, I held a relaxed traffic-speed pace with huge reserves in hand for overtakes. On days built around covering open road rather than crawling between adjacent beaches, the Myra's power means you ride with the flow, never against it, and arrive far less fatigued than on a straining commuter.
Honesty check: a lazy single-beach afternoon does not need the Myra. Pottering the 4 kilometres from my Lamai room to Silver Beach and back last week, all that power and weight was simply unused. For short town hops and one-beach days, a lighter machine is easier to park and just as capable. The Myra is a big-day tool; on a small day it is more machine than the itinerary asks for, and a nimble NIU MQi+ Sport would serve you better.
Pulling it together, the Etran Myra suits the ambitious Samui day: the full island loop, the two-up tour, the wet-weather ride, the open-road run. Save it for itineraries that use its power, range, and ABS, and it is unmatched among our electrics. Reserve a lighter scooter for lazy single-beach afternoons. Choose the day to fit the machine - or the machine to fit the day - and the Myra rewards every kilometre of an island-sized plan.
