TL;DR

The NQi GTS suits the connected, confident rider who wants more speed and range than the MQi+ Sport and uses the NIU app to plan - not a beginner after the lightest, gentlest town electric.

The NIU Owner Who Wanted More

I rented the NQi GTS to a Dutch rider in Chaweng last March who already owned a small NIU at home but wanted something with more legs for the island. He connected the NIU app before leaving the shop and was checking live range within a minute. That is the classic NQi GTS renter: someone who knows the NIU brand, wants more speed and range than the MQi+ Sport offers, and rides through a phone screen as naturally as through the handlebars.

App-Driven Travellers

Pulling out my phone at a Bo Phut beach car park last season, I checked the NIU app on the NQi GTS - 71 per cent, around 95 kilometres remaining, locked and tracked. Travellers who run their whole trip through apps, from maps to bookings, take naturally to this machine. The NIU app turns the battery into a live, plannable resource rather than a guess. For the data-minded visitor who wants their transport to talk to their phone, the NQi GTS speaks the right language.

Performance-Minded NIU Fans

Opening the NQi GTS throttle on the ring road toward Lamai last April, its 70 km/h pace and 3000-watt pull felt a full class above the gentle MQi+ Sport. Riders who found smaller NIUs too tame on Samui's faster roads are exactly who this model is for. It keeps the NIU polish and app smarts but adds the performance to ride confidently with traffic. For the NIU fan who wants pace as well as connectivity, the GTS is the brand's machine for this island.

Distance Riders Who Want No Anxiety

Range-conscious tourers are a core part of the NQi GTS audience. Riding mine from Mae Nam down toward the south last season, the 135-160 km dual battery erased the range maths that smaller electrics force on you. For the rider who plans long days, chases far viewpoints, and wants to ride home after dark without watching a gauge, the GTS removes anxiety entirely. The app's nearest-charge-point feature is a backstop they rarely need but always appreciate having on hand.

Who the NQi GTS Is Not For

Absolute beginners and weight-shy riders should look elsewhere, and I say so plainly. At 114 kilograms the NQi GTS is heavier than the featherweight MQi+ Sport or Yadea G5 Pro, and its performance suits a rider with prior saddle time. There is no ABS either, just combined braking. For a first-ever powered two-wheeler or someone who wants the lightest possible town runabout, the GTS is more machine than the day needs - I point those renters to a lighter, gentler electric instead.

The Rider Profile in Short

Across five years matching renters to machines, the NQi GTS pattern is consistent: a confident, connected rider who wants more speed and range than the MQi+ Sport, uses the NIU app actively, and plans real distances. Those riders return delighted. The ones who struggle are beginners drawn by the badge who never needed the performance. Match the NIU NQi GTS to a capable, app-savvy tourer, and it is one of the most complete electric rentals on Koh Samui.
