TL;DR

The NQi GTS wins on speed, range, and stability for ambitious island days; the lighter, cheaper MQi+ Sport wins on easy handling and town value - choose performance and reach over nimbleness and price.

Two NIUs, Two Different Jobs

I rode the NQi GTS and the MQi+ Sport back to back on the same Chaweng-to-Lamai stretch last April to settle which NIU suits which rider. Both share the brand's polish and the same excellent app, but they aim at different days: the GTS is the performance, long-range machine; the MQi+ Sport is the light, affordable town runabout. They are siblings, not twins, so the real question is which set of strengths fits the Samui riding you actually plan to do.

Speed and Power on the Ring Road

Opening both throttles up the ring road past Bo Phut, the gap was obvious - the GTS's 3000-watt motor surged to 70 km/h while the MQi+ Sport topped out gently around 45. For riding with traffic on Samui's faster roads, the GTS is far more confident. The MQi+ Sport is happiest on quiet lanes and short hops. If your days use open road and you want to keep pace with cars, the GTS wins this round decisively.

Range for the Big Days

Range splits them as clearly as speed. The GTS's dual battery returns 135-160 km; the MQi+ Sport manages 70-90. Riding to Taling Ngam and back last season, I would not attempt that southern loop on the MQi+ Sport, but the GTS did it easily. For ambitious island days the GTS's reach is the deciding factor. The MQi+ Sport's range is fine for town and short coastal runs, but the GTS is the one for genuinely covering Koh Samui.

Weight, Handling, and Town Manners

Here the MQi+ Sport answers back. At 75 kilograms it flicked around a tight Nathon car park last month where the 114-kilogram GTS demanded real effort at walking pace. For nervous riders, town errands, and easy parking, the lighter MQi+ Sport is simply friendlier day to day. The GTS's weight buys stability at speed but costs convenience in town. If your riding is mostly slow and urban, the MQi+ Sport's nimbleness will please you more than the GTS's pace.

Price and Value

The MQi+ Sport is the cheaper rental, and for the right rider that value is real - if your days are short and gentle, you would be paying for GTS capability you never use. But the GTS earns its premium when you need the speed and range, turning ambitious days into easy ones. So the trade is concrete: save with the MQi+ Sport for town riding, or pay more for the GTS when you want to ride the whole island confidently.

The Verdict Between the Two NIUs

After back-to-back days on both, my verdict is that the right NIU depends on your days. Choose the NQi GTS if you want performance, long range, and stability for ambitious island riding. Choose the MQi+ Sport if you want a light, affordable, easy machine for town days and short beach hops. Both are excellent and share the same app polish; match the NIU to your kind of Samui riding and either one will serve you faithfully.
