Filling the Click 125 at the PTT station on Second Road in Chaweng last March, I noted the exact volume required from empty and rode a 32-kilometre town loop - beach road, market, temple, back via the Second Road corridor. Fuel used: 0.67 litres. Fuel economy: 47.8 km/l. That figure puts the Click 125 at the top of the rental scooter fleet for town riding efficiency - 8 to 10 km/l above the Scoopy and NMAX on the same loop. In town traffic, frequent stops and low speeds amplify the Click 125's natural efficiency advantage.
On the ring road section between Mae Nam and the northern junction last January, I held the Click 125 at 70 km/h - near its comfortable ceiling - for 8 kilometres. Fuel economy on this section: 41 km/l, a drop of 7 km/l from town riding figures. The 125cc engine at 70 km/h operates closer to its maximum than the NMAX 155 at the same speed, which costs efficiency. The Click 125 returns its best economy at 40 to 55 km/h - the speed range of Samui's resort corridors and beach roads, exactly where most renters ride.
The Click 125 carries a 4.1-litre fuel tank. At 48 km/l town riding economy, that produces a range of 195 kilometres before reserve - enough for four full beach-to-beach days in Chaweng without stopping for fuel. At ring road economy of 41 km/l, range drops to 165 kilometres. I tested the practical range last October by not filling the tank at the start of a three-day stay: I completed all three days' riding - approximately 90 kilometres total - and returned the bike with fuel remaining. Petrol becomes a non-issue for short-stay town riders.
Last November I rode the same 32-kilometre town loop on a Click 125 and a Scoopy on consecutive mornings and measured fuel consumption on both. Click 125: 48 km/l. Scoopy: 40 km/l. At the PTT station's pump price that morning, the difference was 7 baht per loop - approximately 50 baht across a full week of identical daily riding. Fuel is not the main cost saving between these two scooters; the rental rate difference is larger. The comparison confirms the Click 125's efficiency without making it the decisive saving.
Leaving the Lamai market last February on the Click 125 in heavy traffic, I measured fuel consumption over two 8-kilometre sections of the same road: one with smooth consistent speed, one with frequent stops and aggressive junction restarts. Smooth section: 51 km/l. Stop-start aggressive section: 38 km/l. The 13 km/l difference from riding style alone is the largest single variable in Click 125 fuel economy. Smooth junction restarts - rolling the throttle over 3 seconds from a stop - consistently recover the efficiency that aggressive riding costs.
Six years of tracking fuel consumption on the Honda Click 125 across Koh Samui's ride types has produced consistent ranges: 45 to 52 km/l in town and beach corridor riding, 38 to 43 km/l on ring road sections, and 34 to 38 km/l in sustained hill-climbing. These figures position the Click 125 as the most fuel-efficient rental scooter in the fleet across every ride type I have tested. The practical implication: on a beach holiday with short daily distances, most renters will never need to think about fuel at all.
