I have ridden the WR155R up tracks above Lipa Noi that turned back every scooter and even some bigger adventure bikes. That access is the core of why it is the best trail tool in my fleet. Last dry season I reached a ridge viewpoint with no road to it at all, just a rocky goat path the WR155R picked through happily. On an island where the finest spots hide at the end of dirt, a bike that simply gets there wins.
Picking my way down a loose descent near Na Muang, I trust the WR155R because its light weight means a slide is recoverable rather than terrifying. Heavier bikes punish off-road mistakes hard; the WR155R forgives them. That confidence loop is why riders progress so quickly on it - they try a harder line because they know they can save it. For Samui's tricky, unpredictable trail surfaces, a forgiving, light bike beats a powerful, heavy one every single time.
Crawling up a steep dirt switchback last month, I let the WR155R lug along at low revs and it pulled cleanly without stalling or spinning the rear. Trail riding is rarely about top speed - it is about controllable low-down drive, and the VVA engine delivers that beautifully. The bike will idle its way over obstacles and ease up gradients that demand finesse, not power. That tractable bottom end is exactly the character Samui's technical climbs reward.
What seals it is that the WR155R is no chore on the road in between. Riding the ring road out to a trailhead near Maenam, it sat at a steady cruise comfortably enough that I arrived fresh, not rattled. Many dedicated dirt bikes are miserable on tarmac; the WR155R is civilised enough to commute. That dual nature means one rental covers the whole adventure - road out, dirt in the middle, road home - without ever feeling like the wrong bike.
After seven years exploring this island, the WR155R is the bike I personally reach for when I want to find somewhere new inland. Its blend of access, forgiveness, low-speed control, and road manners is unmatched for the job here. I tell trail-minded renters plainly: if your goal is to see the Samui that has no postcode, nothing else on the lot comes close. For the island's dirt, the WR155R is simply the best tool I can put you on.
